So after last week’s discussion all about North Carolina resources, as promised this week is about South Carolina resources.
So instead of first focusing on one book I am actually going to focus on a call number, LH 929.3757 Hol. There are 16 titles with this call number, all compiled by Brent H. Holcomb. Mr. Holcomb has done a great service to researchers in South Carolina as this one selection of books covers everything from marriages to deeds to early naturalization records. These titles take up about a full shelf and a half worth of space and should not be missed if you are doing genealogical research in South Carolina.
Outside of the Holcomb books, another book that gets a lot of usage with my South Carolina researchers is: Local and family history in South Carolina : a bibliography / by Richard N. Côté. Covering over 8,000 entries and nearly 500 pages this book covers a great deal of ground in South Carolina.
Another resource from South Carolina that gets used a fair bit are the Lineage charts : S.C. Genealogical Society chapters: Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Greenwood, Pendleton District, Sumter by the South Carolina Genealogical Society. These can be a great starting point in your research as most of them do not have sources where the information came from. Sometimes though all you need is that point of direction to get you looking in the right place.
